From the People We Have Worked With
Zahid Ramlan
Café owner · Petaling Jaya
We came to Lumea with a rough idea and a narrow shopfront. The concept direction session helped us settle on a format that actually suited the space — we had been trying to put too much in. The final café seats 28 comfortably and the kitchen-front counter works exactly as we needed it to.

Restaurant operator · KLCC area
The documentation package was what sold it for me. The contractor said it was the clearest set of drawings he had worked from in years — no back and forth about what the counter detail was supposed to be. The site coordination added cost but we would not have caught the tile issue before it was grouted without it.

Lim Kai Wen
F&B group, 2nd outlet · Bangsar
Second time working with Lumea. The first was for our main outlet in Mont Kiara. This time we needed the concept to be distinct enough to stand on its own rather than look like a branch copy. That was a harder brief and they navigated it well — the Bangsar space has its own character.

Amirah Hashim
Café operator · Chow Kit
Hired Lumea only for the concept direction because we had a designer in the family who was handling the drawings. The narrative document and seating layout they produced gave our designer a solid foundation to work from and helped me articulate the brief clearly. Worth the fee for that clarity alone.

Restaurant owner · Damansara Uptown
The weekly progress log was a feature I did not expect to value as much as I did. During the build I was focused entirely on recruitment and supplier negotiations — having a written record of what was agreed on site gave me confidence that nothing was slipping. The snagging list caught about eleven items before we opened.

Straightforward to work with and honest about timelines. We had a tight opening window and they were upfront about what was realistic rather than agreeing to a schedule that would have required corners to be cut. The full documentation package was comprehensive — the contractor came back with very few queries.

A Closer Look at Three Projects
Each project is shared with the operator's permission. Details have been generalised where requested.
A 40-Cover Café With a Split Kitchen Arrangement
The operator had secured a shophouse space across two floors with the kitchen on the upper level — a configuration that created real service flow problems. Early plans showed servers crossing guest paths repeatedly.
Rethought Layout and Service Path
We redesigned the seating layout to create a clear service corridor and relocated the order point to eliminate the main conflict. Full documentation included a detailed counter brief that the joinery contractor built to without revisions.
40 Covers, Cleaner Service, On Schedule
Opened within the planned timeline. The operator reported that service flow during the first month was noticeably smoother than their previous venue of similar size.
"The layout difference from the first version to the final one sounds minor on paper but changed everything operationally."
Second Site With a Different Positioning
An established F&B group opening a second outlet needed it to feel distinct from the first — same brand values, different character. The brief was genuinely difficult to articulate without the right framework.
Concept Work Focused on Differentiation
The concept direction session spent significant time on what made the first venue feel the way it did — and what the second needed to feel different about. The written narrative gave the design team a clear basis to work from that the group could also use for investor conversations.
Distinct Space, Coherent Group Identity
The second venue opened six weeks after the documentation was completed. The group has since commissioned a third site concept from Lumea.
"I can explain the two venues without them sounding like a contradiction. That was harder than it should have been before we had the written narrative."
Coordination Only — Drawings From Another Practice
An operator had complete interior documentation from an overseas design practice but needed someone with local knowledge to manage the build and catch interpretation issues before they became expensive fixes.
Construction Coordination Without Redesign
We reviewed the incoming documentation, flagged six items where local materials or contractor methods would require adaptation, and managed the site visits over a nine-week build period with written records at every visit.
On Budget, 14 Snagging Items Resolved Pre-Opening
The operator opened within three days of the planned date. Fourteen snagging items were resolved before handover — of which four would have required reopening joinery to fix if caught post-opening.
"Engaging coordination separately from documentation worked well. We had our designer's drawings and Lumea's eyes on the build."
